Understanding Grade Two Listed Buildings & The Technical Knowledge Needed To Deliver Surveying Services

An exciting new instruction for Nicholas & Co. Surveyors took place in March 2024 for the Yeomanry House in Hertford. This early Georgian Grade II listed building, known originally as Wisteria House, was built circa 1725. Recently, Nicholas & Co. conducted a thorough building survey on behalf of East Anglia RFCA, an organisation associated with the British Army Reserve. Undertaking building survey works for listed buildings is something that requires know-how and a detailed understanding of the listed status of buildings.

As the leading surveying firm working on commercial and residential properties in London and the South East, our business is passionate about the importance of a building survey.

A building survey is a detailed and comprehensive inspection of a property's condition and structure. It thoroughly analyses a property's condition, highlighting defects, necessary repairs, and maintenance requirements. A building survey is a valuable tool for property buyers, owners, and investors to make informed decisions about a property. This is especially important when examining a property's listed status.

Work may entail examining the structure, roof, walls, floors, ceilings, windows, doors, and internal and external elements. It also includes assessing potential defects, such as dampness, subsidence, or rot, and recommending repairs and maintenance.

All of this activity is imperative to ensure the long life of a building and the safety of occupiers.

East Anglia RFCA, part of a network of 13 similar associations across the UK, has a key role in supporting the British Army Reserve and Cadets. Established in 1908, these associations, known formerly as TAVRAs, serve as crucial government bodies with Crown status. They are significant in maintaining and overseeing the infrastructure and facilities vital for the reserve forces' training and operations.

Nicholas Zorpidez, Managing Director at Nicholas and Co. Surveyors, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Working on listed building surveys always sparks my curiosity about the past. I love learning a bit of history while on the job. It adds significance to our work, knowing that we're not just assessing structures but preserving a piece of history for future generations to appreciate."

Details on listed buildings are always interesting and require high surveying skills.

The project at Yeomanry House involved thoroughly examining the building's structure and identifying any potential issues or areas requiring maintenance. Given its age and historical importance, careful attention to detail was crucial for ensuring the building is kept well-preserved for the future.

Nicholas & Co. Surveyors specialise in property valuations and surveyors across London and the southeast of England. Their commitment to professionalism, accuracy, and attention to detail guarantees that clients receive quality service and expertise. Their residential valuation services provide a valuable resource for anyone making informed decisions about residential real estate.
